HTC Desire Gingerbread update

HTC weren't originally going to offer a Gingerbread update to the HTC Desire due to the amount of internal storage memory the device has - only around 500MB. However, there was a backlash and it offered the update with a few caveats (such as SMS not working), although this could just be scare tactics as every comment regarding SMS is from people saying it still works.
I followed the guide on CNET and although it says "not for the faint hearted" its actually very easy and worked perfectly (update was just 3 minutes). The longest process was just waiting on the downloads of HTC Sync and the Gingerbread update files.
Note: the HTC site has changed - the Gingerbread update is now at on the following page - http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
The main reason I updated is to get rid of the ridiculous amount of Orange bloat ware on the device (I mean, why have Orange Maps, Orange messenger, Orange ringtones, Orange Photos?). I did look at rooting the device but the Flash update from HTC seemed like a simpler and easier process.
