Wine

One thing that was on my mind was how to test Internet Explorer sites whilst using Ubuntu. I’d heard of Wine but never tried using it so I thought I’d see if that would allow me to test IE6 (IE7 isn’t yet supported as far as I am aware). It almost worked but I came across a clever app (I can’t for the life of me remember what its called) which took care of the whole installation. It seems to work fine although it can be a little slow to load up sometimes. Perfect for what I need though.
Now, that got me thinking. One of the big flaws with jEdit and the other programs I looked at recently was the lack of php function integration (Dreamweaver displays the function arguments when you type the function name). I really prefer Dreamweaver so I thought I would try it out on Wine – it works great (so far anyway). I also installed my old copy of Photoshop too – I previously tried Gimp but I’m just so used to Photoshop’s shortcut keys and processes that I find it hard to use anthing else. Excellent – I can use my usual apps that im comfortable with and not have to use Windows.
